The Book

Beginning in the final years of the Cold War, Paul recounts his early career as a British Army intelligence specialist - learning to detect meaning not just in words, but in hesitation, tone and silence.

Synopsis

From listening to Soviet operators in Berlin to navigating the complexities of Cyprus, Northern Ireland, and Kosovo, he developed an instinctive understanding of deception, fear, and intent - skills that would later define his life.

Deployed to South Armagh, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan, he operated in some of the most dangerous environments of modern conflict, where survival depended not on firepower, but on the ability to recognise subtle behavioural signals before they escalated into violence.

After leaving the military, he was recruited to Abu Dhabi to build an UAE Military Intelligence capability from the ground up - designing doctrine, training officers and creating systems that would later influence global intelligence education. His work was ultimately recognised at the highest academic level, forming the basis of an Oxford University accredited Master’s level Intelligence programme, adopted internationally.

Recognising that cyber threats were fundamentally human rather than technical, he later founded a company that challenged cybersecurity conventions. There, he created and patented CyberShadows, a pioneering behavioural intelligence capability designed to detect the most severe cyber attacks before action - identifying threats not through code, but through patterns including human behaviour.
